Frustrated - ********** Client

As a first time insurance client, my experience with SA Underwriters has been nothing short of HORRIFIC proportions when time arrived for them to fulfill their duties as my brokers/Insurance Company. Start date with them was in April 2022, met an accident 24th Sep 2023. Communication thereafter received was a week delayed and was only received by me having to phone them via a call center. After being advised that the vehicle is being written off, 34 days after the accident, I still await for them to conclude their process and supply documents to me and the bank. As a 1st time insurance client, I was not advised properly of all the benefits that should have been available to me. Vehicle was purchased brand new, 27000km later and still in its pristine condition prior to the accident, I now received an assessment report stating that damages that was not caused by the accident has now dropped the retail value of the vehicle, resulting to a lesser amount they would pay the bank and an excess amount that I am liable for. Apart from this frustrating months experience with SA Underwriters and because of them dragging their feet to conclude my case, I still have a debit order that will go off towards the installment of a vehicle that I no longer have.

Dear Rebecca
Thank you for your message. We can confirm that this matter has now been resolved. Thank you once again for your patience whilst we attend to the matter and we apologise for any inconvenience
In terms of the settlement we can confirm the following:
  • The Insurer endeavours to settle all valid claims, however this requires certain claims to be properly validated before finalising.
  • Unfortunately, claim validations times may vary depending on the merits of the claim and how quickly the Insurer can obtain the required information.

With regards to the settlement, we would like to draw your attention to the policy wording , Section A, point 2 (below)
A. INSURED VALUEPlease be advised that:
  • 2. these amounts are deducted from any valid claim amount:
  • 2.1 excess(first amount of a loss you must pay)
  • 2.2 the proportionate amount of a loss covered under more than one policy (dual insurance)
  • 2.3 betterment
  • 2.4 any other applicable deduction
EXAMPLE OF BETTERMENTAny pre-existing damages that are on the vehicle would not form part of the settlement and would be for your own account.
We trust this addresses your concernsPlease contact us should you have any further queries
Kind regards
The SAU Team
