Erroneous Access payable

We've been with SAU since 2017, when we bought our first car. We only had one claim in the last five years for mechanical breakdown, for which we used towing services. We have been paying our premiums on time and have never had any problems until recently. My wife damaged her vehicle's passenger and rear side doors about two weeks ago. We filed a claim, and an assessor came out to inspect the damage. This morning, we were contacted by Nosipho Magubane, who informed us that the authorization for the vehicle to be repaired by panelbeater had been approved, and that because we do not have a fixed access on the vehicle (which we were never informed of), we must pay R10,000 for access and the balance of the actual quote from panelbeater will be covered by SAU.

Now this to me is not fair.5 years down the line one actual valid claim and we have to fork out R10k for access? Clearly it is our fault that the broker never informed us about this according to Nosipho and because its not a 3rd party claim we have 3 months to get the access and claim will be placed on hold.

A few years back i was involved in an accident and my vehicle was written off.Never was i asked to pay in an erroneous access amount of R10k and my claim was settled within a month and money paid out with previous insurer.I think its time for me to go back to an insurer that is transparent when it comes to their policy what they cover and access and what is of best interest to their client that pay their premium every month without finding a reason not to approve a claim when it arise.Furthermore i requested to get a personal quote from a different panelbeater however i was informed this will only be reviewed by SAU committee and does not guarantee that the claim will be processed.

SAU i am very much disappointed wrt to how my claim is being handled. Will most probably need to revise my policy and opt for a better insurance and service that will cover us without giving out such huge access and still pay monthly.

Dear Jason Kensley K

We thank you for your message and we are sorry that you are unhappy with the terms your policy.

We have investigated the matter that you have brought to our attention and we can confirm the following:

  • The excess structure disclosed and discussed when you accepted the policy and again when the Ford was added to the policy.
  • These excesses were agreed to and accepted by yourself in exchange for the applicable premium.
  • These excesses also reflect on your policy contract that was provided to you on taking up the policy.

An Excess is an undertaking that the Insured will be responsible for a certain amount of their loss in respect of every claim.
It is the portion of the claim that the Insured agrees and accepts as the amount they must pay for any valid claim.

A short term insurance policy is a contract and the Insured is responsible for fami****ising themselves with the terms & conditions of the contract.
Should you wish to change your excess structure you can do so by contacting our policy services department

In light of this we are of the opinion that the policy terms & conditions were correctly app**** to your claim.

Should you have any queries please feel free to contact your Broker or the SAU policy services team

Regards

The SAU team

We dare to deliver!
