Cliam

I was involved in an motor vehicle accident that was not my fault on the 5th of August 2015. The person that caused this accident was not insured. I had to pay an access fee of R7 000-00 before my car was released by the Panel beater. After contacting SAU, I was informed by their legal department that I will only receive my R7 000-00 access fee back once the person that caused the accident paid back the full amount of R7 000-00. They then informed me that they SAU already made an arrangement with the person to pay back R 500-00 a month and that I will have to wait.

This is not fair, nobody asked me if I could afford the R7 000-00 access fee. I had to borrow this money as I work for myself and is dependent on my vehicle to earn or make a living.

I am extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with SAU.

Hello Debro,

Please accept our apologies that the process was not explained correctly. Excess is the first amount payable on each and any claim whether you caused the accident or not. Your rights has been subrogated to us and we endeavour to recover the total claims cost, which includes your excess, from the other party. It must be noted that a recovery is not guaranteed. The success of the recovery is influenced by numerous factors, such as successfully tracing the third party, whether that party is insured or not, the third party's willingness to co-operate with the insurer and numerous other factors. The recovery process is therefore lengthy and uncertain. As much as a recovery is not guaranteed SA Underwriting Agencies and Arangies attorneys will take every step necessary and viable in pursuit of the recovery. Unfortunately in this instance the other party does not have insurance and is making monthly payments. We will only be in a position to refund your excess once the total claims cost has been recovered.
We apologise for the inconvenience.
Kind regards
SAU Team
