Claim unfairly dismissed

On the 09th October 2015 at approximately 21:30 I knocked a huge dog on my way home from a work function. I did not stop as I am a female and was alone in a dark and secluded area. I continued driving until I found a safe place to stop and called my brother for help. I was not away of the extend of the damages to the vehicle at that time. SAU are now refusing to pay for the damages to the engine because I continued to drive instead of stopping and awaiting help. I am a single mum with two small children and if something happened to me if I stopped, Will SAU take responsibility for them??? I did inform the assessor that I drove the car & it was his responsibility to check the engine for damages which he neglected to do. It's gone 3 months & I'm without a vehicle, as I was asked to collect my vehicle urgently from Bosch Pietermaritzburg, & even though the body work has been completed, it is mechanically not in a position to be driven. I have diligently paid my insurance premiums, and now in a time of crisis, I feel that I have not been given the service that was expected from SA underwriters. Why have insurance if they not going to pay all damages caused simply for for not stopping.
