Accident claim with SA Underwriters

Hello Peter, i was in an car accident with a horse, the car has been written-off as per assessor, my question is this, why do i have to pay an additional excess of R5000 on top of R2000 excess? because there was no 3rd party involved? and to top it off no one has been in contact with me since and i have been phoning every 2-3rd day to find out the processing of the claim, the claim has been opened since 18/05/2015, it is more than a month now and i need to get this settlement payment sorted out as i do need a car to get to work and about... every time i phone it looks like then they only put things in motion, this is really poor service from SA Underwriters, Plus the lady handling the case sounds lost when i call her.. does really have to take this long to get things settled?

Hello fab1andrews,

First and foremost we would like to offer you our sincerest apologies for the inconvenience you or anyone else may have experienced in respect to the handling of your claim or the apparent lack thereof.

We wish to inform you that the validation of the claim is lengthy when the vehicle is declared uneconomical to repair, as one of the requirements is to request the registration documents from the Finance house prior to finalisation of the claim. The claim will therefore be settled upon receipt of the vehicle registration documents from Wesbank.

With regard to the excess payable, at the inception of the policy you had been advised of the excesses applicable at claims stage. Shortly after the inception of the policy you had been sent policy documents reiterating the terms and conditions of the policy. Kindly refer to page 9 of your policy schedule to view the excess structure.

We thank you for your patience and understanding herein.

Kind Regards,
The SAU team
