Roytronix incompetence
On 27 July, Roytronix charged us R700 to check a DSTV installation and connect a second decoder and 'eye'. It all worked until about 4 days ago, when suddenly I got an error message ("There is no signal. This may be due to bad weather or a faulty connection in the installation.") ... and then the one decoder stopped working. Nobody had fiddled with the installation and there had not been any bad weather. The other decoder continued to work without any problem, so we know there is no problem with the dish and there is a signal.
Roytronix were here again this morning to check the installation again. According to them, they simply did a 'factory' reset' of the decoder .... and suddenly, it was working again. Yet Roytronix 'technicians' claimed that the dish and sensor are 'old' and need to be replaced. They also claimed that even after replacing the dish and sensor, there might 'still be a problem with the cable'. They were unable to explain why the installation should suddenly not work and could not provide any reason for the failure. They also claimed that the problem was 'intermittent' and could/would occur again, but they could not explain why. They also claimed that the two decoders on the same dish will cause problems ... but again, they could not explain why. If we switch off the other decoder, it does not resolve the problem, so I don't believe that either.
A while after they left, the eye was no longer working again. This evening at about 9.30pm, I changed channels from 402 to 403, and back again. Suddenly there is the same error : "There is no signal. This may be due to bad weather or a faulty connection in the installation." We rebooted the decoder, but it is not working .... AGAIN! The other decoder continues to work fine and if we switch it off, it makes no difference to the other decoder.
Yes, the installation is old but it has been working for years ... and we cannot accept that we have to spend R1300 on a dish and sensor.... especially when your staff cannot guarantee it will work any better. Our conclusion is that your staff are *********** and don't really know what they are doing, because they can't properly 'troubleshoot' the error and only have excuses. If Roytronix can't identify the problem and resolve it, how can you be an 'accredited agency'? Roytronix should refund the R700 we paid in July, so we can get someone who knows what they are doing.
