Bursary refund Complaints
We, as GCRA bursary students, are heartbroken and deeply disappointed by the way Rosebank College and Wisebooks have treated us. Instead of being supported in our studies, we feel taken advantage of.
We were forced by the Rosebank staff handling our bursary funds — Winstonia and Tryphina — to buy books online through Wisebooks, even though many of us did not want to. Now, when we asked for a refund, Wisebooks deducted 20% of our bursary book allowance.
This is unfair, cruel, and devastating. That money is not extra — it is part of our bursary, meant to help us learn, buy our study materials, and succeed in our education. How are we supposed to afford the books we need when a huge portion is taken away from us? Even SARS, the tax authority, does not take as much as 20% at once!
As students, we already face so many struggles — from financial stress to the pressure of passing. Our bursary is supposed to ease these struggles, not make them worse. Instead of being uplifted, we feel exploited.
We are pleading with you: stop treating students unfairly. Stop taking from our future. Give us back what rightfully belongs to us — our full bursary allowance. We deserve respect, fairness, and the chance to study without being ****** of our education funds.

Dear Management
I am writing to you with deep disappointment and frustration about the way we, as students, are being treated. When it comes to penalties with Wisebooks, you deduct money immediately, without hesitation or delay. Yet when it comes to us receiving our monthly allowances – money meant for our education and survival – we are told to wait 21 working days. How is this fair or even justifiable?
On top of this, the recent 20% deduction by Wisebooks was never communicated to us beforehand. We were forced into purchasing books through Wisebooks, and now we are penalized unfairly without explanation. This is unacceptable, and it feels like students’ voices and needs are completely ignored.
Even tuition fees are demanded without delay, and payment is expected instantly. It is clear that when the institution requires money, no waiting period is allowed. But when it comes to giving students what rightfully belongs to us, endless patience is expected. This double standard is disheartening, *********, and deeply unprofessional.
I enrolled at Rosebank College because I believed it was one of the best private institutions that truly valued its students. Unfortunately, my experience has shown the opposite. I feel let down, exploited, and emotionally drained.
All I want is what rightfully belongs to me – my money. I am tired of constantly begging and waiting for funds that are meant to support my studies and daily needs. With this ongoing treatment, I have already decided to deregister next year, because I cannot continue at an institution that treats its students in such a careless and unfair manner.
I truly hope you and your staff understand how painful, discouraging, and exhausting this has been for us.
Sincerely,
Themba Phoko
