Almost Lost My Pride on My Graduation Day

What was meant to be one of the proudest and most unforgettable days of my life, my graduation on 28 May 2026 at Rosebank College, Braamfontein Campus it almost turned into one of the most painful experiences I have ever had.

After years of hard work, sacrifice, late nights, stress, and pushing through every challenge just to reach that stage, I finally arrived at my graduation feeling proud and fulfilled. I genuinely believed this was the moment where everything would come together and I would finally be celebrated for the effort I had poured into my qualification.

But when I went to receive my certificate, I was instead handed an envelope with a letter stating that I allegedly still owed fees despite having fully paid everything. In that moment, everything I had worked for felt like it was being questioned. The joy I had built up disappeared instantly. It was confusing, shocking, and deeply heartbreaking. Standing there, on a day that was supposed to represent achievement and pride, I felt embarrassed and crushed. I broke down in tears because it felt like my hard work was being overshadowed and almost taken away from me in an instant.

It honestly felt like my pride, my joy, and the meaning of my entire journey were being stripped away. For a moment, I wasn’t celebrating anymore I was just trying to understand how something like that could happen after everything I had done to earn that qualification.

But in the middle of that emotional and overwhelming moment, I was helped by Nkagiseng Chiloane, the Academic Operations Officer at the Braamfontein Campus. Her response in that situation meant more than words can fully explain. She didn’t treat me like just another student or a number in a system she saw me as a person who was hurting.

She comforted me when I was overwhelmed, gave me a hug, and reassured me with calmness and sincerity that she would personally look into the issue. She didn’t dismiss my pain or delay the process she took immediate responsibility to help me. In that moment, her kindness brought me back from a place of deep disappointment.

True to her word, she went beyond what I expected. She verified the issue, followed up quickly, and made sure that my certificate was released and brought to me before the graduation ceremony ended. Because of her, I did not leave that day feeling defeated. I left with my qualification in my hands the way it was always meant to be.

I cannot express enough gratitude for what Nkagiseng Chiloane did for me. She restored my dignity, my confidence, and the joy that had almost been taken away from me on a day that was supposed to mark success. Her compassion, professionalism, and urgency turned a painful experience into one I could still look back on with gratitude.

Ngiyabonga ***hulu, sisi. You didn’t just assist me you restored my moment. ❤️
