A constant failure of expections!

Before I lay my critique I should applaud the select few hard-working lecturers I've come across at Rosebank College. Yes, there are!

As a student, out of frustration and bitterness, it's easy to fall prey to a biased review that would set me ranting about common issues that are possibly faced by all students at different academic institutions at varying degrees.

In spite of holding the same stance, I will rather try to be objective in my review. So here goes:

The Administration ------------------------------ This year, being my first at Rosebank College, I was excited. After three months, I was put off by the disruptive disorder in academic operations. Being of high spirits, I shove it off that thinking it was an occasional glitch. How wrong was I!

It occurred that there was a due date mismatch between the lecturer's date and institutions'. The module's assignment due date schedule came from the lecture for that specific module. The date posted by Institution was a week early than that of the lecturer's. The submission day was chaotic and frustrating! The institution did not care much as it assumed the irresponsibility of the students despite forwarded reasons. Fortunately, the lecture intervened and we had another date to submit on.

This might be a fairly common thing around institutions you might be thinking. Yes, it may be. Take note that I said earlier, 'disruptive disorder', meaning the frequency and scale such occurrences happen at this institution, literally threatens one's academic performance regardless of aptitude. To emphasize this, of the many I have, I'll mention one similar case, that really made mad.

An assignment due date was moved from a week to submission to three days! Without even a proper channel of notifying students but rather through a verbally chained announcement that missed other students, resulting in a large number of those in failure. Another case, was when branches mismatched Assignment timetables and by the time they were rectified, we were only left with less than two weeks to complete 5 or 6 assignements!

The last of this category happened recently (and it's not about due dates). Lecturers were changed for a particular module that was going very well especially for devout students. I'd like to point out that this module does not have a rubric. As a result, it is hard to quantify the accuracy of my answers with the exception of feedback from the lecturer (of which was very inconsistent as you will soon discover).

The lecture explained how he expected to see the assignment answered. We asked questions about where we did not understand. And he answered correspondingly as did the previous lecture, all was good. We did and handed in the assignment but to the class' horror, we had dropped by an average of 45%, the worst being 65% from the task we did with the previous lecturer.

Without any rubric to qualify such a significant drop even from the top students from across 5 classes of the module. I question the lecturer's ethics. Confronted by one good student about a 37% drop, getting a 45%. He rep**** 'it's not bad'! I could not believe my ears! The issue is still on going.

The Lack Of Resources ----------------------------------- It is very annoying when you want to do assignments to find that the 2 computer labs of ~60 to 70 computers are full! The only option you are left with is to scavenge for computer classes that do not have lectures. Once settled, don't be surprised within the first 15 minutes when security personnel or a lecturer comes to kick you out.

There are countless issues that I can further talk about. The aforementioned 2 stand out as serious short-commings of the institution. It may not be the worst institution ever but it constantly did not meet my expectations.
