To Infinity and Beyond!

So, I have been with RocketNet for merely 18 days now, and I am happy to report that (so-far) things are going great. We only recently received fibre internet coverage in our area (thank you Metrofibre!)...and the last 18 days was my first forage into the world of fibre internet. Oh what a Joy!

I am part of an online gaming clan (30 strong on our Whatsapp group), and dropped the question as to who used what isp's fr their fibre internet connections and why. Out of the various responses (from Afrihost to Mweb etc etc), RocketNet peaked my interest purely because one clan member boasted "297 hours uptime without the connection dopping, and I happily download an average of 1TB a month, no issues!". Only during this period, did I learn that the ISP is dependent on the Fibre Provider (in my case Metro Fibre) for the infrastructure (much like the Telkom ADSL line and ISP relationship), where at times the fibre provider may also act as the ISP (I guess I can be ******** at times xD)

Nevertheless, knowing that Hello Peter is a third party and unbiased platform for people to rant and rage or even compliment different companies products and/or services rendered, I looked into hello Peter to see if indeed RocketNet is an option for me.

The first thing I noticed was that there are both good and bad reviews tied to RocketNet. I personally think this is a good thing, purely because nothing in life is perfect (I actually distrust cases where almost all, if not all, ratings are perfect - go google "Chinese Like Factories" - I dare you. Anyways, what was clear was that all reviews received a response from RocketNet, Reading into this, I realized that RocketNet must have a client base of manageable size. For me this is important (knowing that the biggest isn't always the best) as this shows that RocketNet is big enough to provide service offerings/packages at very competitive price points (as can be seen on their website), Also, I would not be #JustAnotherNumber. This can be deducted by the mere 11 reviews they have at time of writing - compare this to massive ISP's (one such who's name shall not be mentioned) and you will see many more reviews. People may believe that the average rating of a company (or ISP in this case) is enough to make a decision...please don't. I did my homework and saw that Hello Peter doesn't just provide average star ratings, but actually incorporate 3 variable (star ratings, trust index and something called a Bayesian Average - I actually had to read up on what a Bayesian average is xD) - These three variables makes for a very unbiased and balanced rating system (kudos Hello Peter!), Not just that, but it also allows for fairly accurate ratings provided for businesses with few ratings/reviews (ie, smaller companies).

If any of you out there are doing what I did (reading up on ISP's via Hello Peter, in order to settle on a choice of ISP - like I did), then do this exercise: on Hello Peter, hover over the "Best Businesses" menu item at the top of the page, and click on the "Internet Service Providers" sub-menu....take your time in absorbing the fact that RocketNet (at time of writing) is listed as #1...

I really hope that RocketNet grows from strength-to-strength, but at a manageable pace so that their attention to detail (and individual clients) does not one day start faltering.

I am also willing to re-review RocketNet one or two years from now - since this review can be seen as a "First Impression" review (someone might just need to remind me when that day comes xD)

The Geek in me is satisfied....
