Non sensical account opening procedures
I had to open an account with Bisvest bank in order to use their Western Union money transfer services. I submitted my application online together with the supporting documents which as expected included my proof of residence. When I tried to transact on my new account I could not and received an error code on the mobile app which offcourse made no sense to me. I then had to phone their call centre (there goes the idea of online transacting) and was advised that my proof of residence is out standing. The call centre agent could not explain how the Bank opened an account for me without receiving this. So I emailed them the proof of residence again. Still could not transact. Upon email enquiry a certain Rito Seweya advised me that they cannot accept the emailed proof of residence as I was not authenticated telephonically. So now we have the chicken and egg situation which until someone at Bidvest bank who has the mental ability to see the stupidity of their account opening procedure and activate the account will result in me never being able to use the new bank account.
