************** AT BIDVEST BANK KOLONADE
My Name is Runel Ngwenya: My fiancé’ is a foreign national, we reside in Montana Pretoria and have been staying together for 4 years with our two children. My fiance’ has a child in Uganda who we often send fees and we have used the services of Bidvest bank at Kolonade Mall for 4 years. Yesturday on the 8th of Febuary 2018, we walked into a Bidvest Bank, realised we had not withdrawn cash as we usually do, we simply asked the teller, (A white Male by the Name of Lawrence-who is also new at the branch) whether it was possible to withdraw money using an FNB card for purposes of sending money to Uganda; he responded “NO you can’t, you can go to FNB BANK” So I gave my fiancé our business card which business is in my Name and the card has my name on it to go withdraw money outside, then I proceeded to the table to fill in the details of my sister in law who is to receive the child’s fees in Uganda. Lawrence, then, shouted at me saying “ You came to withdraw money, why are you filling-in a form” my fiancé’ who was exiting the door returned, and responded, “why are you shouting, the purpose of withdrawing money, is to send money” Then my fiancé walked out to FNB ATM. Lawrence then informed me he would not process the transaction calling it a ‘THIRD PARTY TRANSACTION’ But did not explain what exactly is a third party transaction and insisted, “ GO TO FNB THEY WILL SEND THE FUNDS FOR YOU BUT I WONT” When my fiancé returned, Lawrence and his colleague, a white female, (Marieki) refused to assist. We then asked for their names and the head office number, they provided us with a number which we called. The call center agent (a black female at their Braamfontein offices called them to clarify, she later called us back and said, they are claiming it’s a third party transaction. We then called a previous Branch Supervisor, who the called the Branch supervisor who was at the Bank (at the back office- Madam Ivon –a colored lady) and explained. Madam Ivon asked her to ask us to bring the Bank card we used to withdraw funds, the bank statement proving funds where from similar card, proof of residence and ID of sender. We did so… ’IN MY LIFE, I HAVE NEVER COME ACROSS A SITUATION WHERE THE BANK DENIES A TRANSACTION BASED ON WHO THE CLIENT WALKED IN WITH AT THE BANK..’ How do you know the sender is sending money for this person and how do you know their relationship, is this part of the vetting process?. SOME PEOPLE LABLE THIS ******, BUT I LIKE TO CALL IT ‘IGNORANCE and ILLITRACY’
We then went to FNB printed the statement and returned to the branch, asked for the supervisor Ivon, who came out checked all documents and started the transaction of sending money. NOW THE FIGHT IN THE BANK BEGAN..A BRUTAL EXCHANGE BETWEEN THE BRANCH SUPERVISOR (Colored lady, and a WHITE MALE …LAWRENCE) as we watched the exchange of why she was challenging his decision, Madam Ivon asked him to freely report to the Manager if he was not happy, The manager called RENDER GERBER (A white Female). NOW THE SCRAMBLE FOR AUTHORITY BEGAN.
‘I NEVER THOUGHT THAT A WHITE PERSON CAN LOWER HIS OR HER STANDARDS TO DEFEND A WRONG AND AN UN ETHICAL POSITION TAKEN BY A FELLOW WHITE’ The manager having exchanged words with Lawrence on the phone at the back office, called the supervisor who was done with the transaction and asked her not to go through with it.
But to my surprise, a fellow white man in the bank who listened to the last part of the story made this comment, “ THIS IS ALL BULL ****, THERE IS NOTHING LIKE THAT, GO SEND YOUR MONEY AT FNB OR WESTERN UNION” Finally we had a white Man on our side, which confirmed by sentiment, ‘ SOME TIMES ******, is merely a gown on top of an invisible MAN called IGINORANCE OR ILLITERACY’ The fight that ensued thereafter was a power and leadership battle at the bank which was no longer about us. A few minutes to our sorrow and absolute shock, the Bank supervisor, who initially was close to concluding the transaction, returned from the back office after an exchange with Lawrence and the Manager on the phone, with a red face, told us, “AM SORRY GUYS I CANT DO THIS” We then asked, “CAN YOU FURNISH US WITH REASONS” for declining the transaction after processing it?, she looked at us with sorrow and a contorted face, IAM SORRY. We then asked her to clarify the transaction which was done for us on the 20th of January 2018, where we sent money to Uganda, she checked the system and then in a shock, kept quiet. We then asked her to clarify all the transactions for the past four years and why the rules are not applying consistently, she rep****, is a small sorrowful voice, “AM SORRY GUYS” ‘I NEVER THOUGHT THAT A SYSTEM CAN LEAVE PUBLIC SERVANTS HOPLESS, THAT A JOB MEANT TO BE SO SIMPLE CAN ACTUALLY BECOME COMPLEX, BY NOT UNDERSTANDING THE MEANING OF A WORDS- ‘PUBLIC SERVICE’ OR CUSTOMER SERVICE OR CUSTOMER CARE’. We then went to Western Union and went through a similar process and SENT MONEY TO UGANDA IN 5 MINUTES.
WE returned and showed Bidvest bank proof of THAT WE HAD SENT MONEY and that we went through the same standard procedure. Apparently I can’t send money in their BANK. TODAY IS THE 9th of FEBUARY 2018 and we are preparing to go write an affidavit at police and proceed to the court, to find out, WHY WE CAN’T BE SERVED BY BIDVESTBANK, AND TO REQUEST THE COURT TO ASSIST US ATLEAST IN OBTAINING WRITTEN REASONS WHY WE CAN NOT BE ASSISTED AT BIDVEST BANK KOLLONADE MALL, MONTANA PRETORIA. WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED TO CONTACT HELLO PETER, WE WILL APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT.
THE CARDINAL QUESTION IS, WHAT IS A ‘THIRD PARTY TRANSACTION?’
