Still waiting
My vehicle was assessed by Renew-it, and I was initially most impressed with their professional approach and handling of my situation. We took the vehicle in for the repairs before the Christmas shutdown. I informed them at the time that there is NO EXCESS due, as per my policy. My Insurance provided a hire car per my agreement. After not getting much feedback from Phildile, i had to follow up and then received regular status notes on the progress. On the 14th December, I received notification that the vehicle was almost completed. I was in the Hazyview area (approx 360 km from here) On Friday the 15th at 07h48 I received an email advising me that I must collect my vehicle before 12h00 as they are closing. There had been no mention of when they would be closing before this. As I was still away and only due back after 13h00, I arranged for them to collect my Wife to take delivery. The notification could have been done the day before, and i would then have left Hazyview in sufficient time. They asked her to inspect the vehicle in a rush and then demanded R 3 500 excess before the vehicle could be released. I advised her that there is no excess but they insisted and she had to pay via credit card. On hearing this, I confirmed the situation with my Insurance and they confirmed that Renew-it had been advised per email. I immediately objected and after they finally located the mail, I was advised that they would refund it immediately. We provided the bank details immediately. Unfortunately, It appears that there was no haste n their side to refund us, as we received a request to provide proof of bank account to which we responded immediately. I did not ask them to provide their banking account proof, or proof of proficiency etc. when I handed them the vehicle. The mail came after the 12h00 shutdown timing, and thus we then had to wait until 5th Jan for our refund. Inspecting the vehicle myself, the following was found: The interior roof and passenger A-pillar had dirty black hand marks. photo sent. The repaired wheel is a different colour and appears to have a totally different paint finish. The Tyre was at 3.0 bar pressure (rest at 2.1 Bar), the valve cap missing, and the wheel balancing is not correct. There is damage to our spare wheel cover - was fresh and photo sent.
We have written mails to Phindile twice and am still awaiting the courtesy of an acknowledgement.
