When will you take accountability?

The decision to purchase a new car last year was both difficult and exciting. As I rely solely on my teacher salary, repayments were a major consideration. However, I fell in love with the 2016 Renault Clio and made huge sacrifices in order to own this car.

My choice of Renault was also influenced by its reputation of reliability which is vital, as I often have learners in my car and am very involved in animal rescue and frequently go into dangerous places from which a quick escape is often necessary.

Within the first month of ownership, the 'system braking fault' and 'STOP' display appeared. The manual advises that it is unsafe to drive the car when this message displays and that an approved dealership must be contacted, which I did. I was very disappointed with the after sales service at the dealership. However, they said the brake fluid had been low and assured me the problem had been sorted out.

At the beginning of December, the same fault display appeared and I had the car towed to the dealership. This time, they admitted to not having fixed it previously but promised that it was done properly this time.

At the end of March 2017, it happened again and this time, I received the worst service yet from Renault. The dealer principle was rude, head office was unenthusiastic and the staff unknowledgeable. When I went to collect my car, the keys were supposed to be left with security but weren't. I was left without a car over the long weekend. I emailed Renault head office after this unpleasant experience and to date, have not had the courtesy of a reply or follow-up phone call.

The same fault display appeared last week! I now have a car that I can only just afford, that has failed four times in less than one year. It will yet again have to be towed into the dealership, where I will face rude, unhelpful staff. When my brakes fail and someone is hurt or ****ed, will Renault take responsibility then? If this matter is not given the immediate attention it deserves, you leave me no choice but to approach the Ombudsman to seek a solution.
