Waiting for a part for over three months
I am going to keep this review simple and state the facts. I am sure that anyone who has ever dealt with a company that showed similar disregard for their customers will understand the range of emotion which accompanies a story like this. 1. Towards the end of October 2024 I became aware of a hole in the fuel fill pipe of my Renault Duster – diesel would pour out of it whenever I filled my tank beyond a certain level. 2. I took it to Kelston Renault Makhanda where I was informed that the plastic fuel fill pipe had suffered stone damage and could not be repaired - it could only be replaced. 3. After further investigation they informed me that the fuel fill pipe was part of a single unit with the fuel tank and the whole thing would have to be replaced. I requested a quotation which they supp****. I submitted this to my insurance, with a second similar quote from a panel beater and they approved the repair. 4. On 21 November 2024 I paid R 11 500 deposit (half the cost of the repair) and was told that the part should take 3-4 weeks to arrive. The war in the Ukraine was given as a reason why it may take this long. 5. In January I began querying where the part was and to date, more than 3 months later, still no-one has been able to give me an ETA on when it will arrive in South Africa, or at Kelston Motors in Makhanda. 6. After a brief flurry of communication from Renault customer service last week when I tried to contact the CEO and other key people via various avenues, and they managed to source the part somewhere in the world, they have gone silent again. They have not yet been able to tell me when the part will arrive in France, let alone South Africa. I have owned this Renault Duster for 4 years and two months. This is the second time I have had to wait more than 3 months for a repair. In the previous instance it took six weeks to correctly diagnose a manufacturer’s fault in the fuel injection system (after first saying that I had used ‘contaminated diesel’) and then more than eight weeks after that to source and fit the part. I am writing this review because people need to know what they are letting themselves in for when they buy a Renault. I was assured by the salesperson when I bought the vehicle (as you will be) that there are so many Dusters in SA now that it is easy to access the parts. This proved to be entirely untrue. I will never touch Renault again.
