Renault Vaal quoting R119000 for a R900 job

My son's Renault Megane rejected its key card last week and had to be towed in to Renault Vaal in Vanderbijlpark by the insurance. (The closest Renault dealer to us.) I bought my son the Renault Megane second hand for R48,000 in 2014 from a private person. Renault Vaal then formally quoted me R119,000 to get the car fixed and said it would take a few weeks to do. They wanted to replace the battery (only 6 months old) and redo most of the car's wiring. Suspecting it was a total lack of technical knowledge I had the car towed at my own cost (R800) to the nearest auto-electrician (AR Auto Electrical) in Vanderbijlpark. They promptly fixed the problem in 1 day and charged me only R900. The problem was a faulty coil reader for the key. I'll write the R800 tow-in cost off as a lesson learned - this now convinced me to quickly get rid of the Renault and my Citroen. In Vanderbijlpark Peugeot / Citroen and Renault are serviced in the same workshop. In the meantime both cars will not be serviced by the dealer again.
