Renault Kiger Zen AMT acceleration failure
In September 2021 I purchased a Renault Kiger Zen AMT from Renault Bryanston, and the experience has been nothing short of horrible. The car struggles to accelerate and is worse during take-off. You can have your foot fully depressed on the accelerator but the car will barely move, the rev count goes to the maximum and makes a loud struggling noise but the car will barely be moving/accelerating. This poses a risk not only to yourself and other drives, and also makes it impossible to overtake.
I approached the dealership to inform them about this, we went on a test drive and the technician agreed that there was an issue, I left the car at the dealership and picked it up the next day, They had apparently fixed something on the gearbox and updated the computer system so that the clutch can engage quicker. And to be fair when I picked it up the car had a much smoother drive, but this only lasted for about 4 days, and then the car went back to this abnormal behaviour.
I then took it in a second time and test-drove it with a different technician, and this time I was told that it's normal for the car to behave this way and that I should even 'time' when I accelerate and was dismissed.
I then approached my car finance (Wesbank) to lay a case for this, and it proved futile. They just repeated to me what Renault told me and that the car performs according to the manufactures specification. No other investigations were done. They just took the word of the dealership and that was it, was also dismissed. But they also said should I decide to go to the Ombudsman that I should provide them with a reference number for the case so that their books are up to date. I was utterly disgusted at this point, as you're made to feel crazy and that the problem is you.
However, the more I enquire with people who have the same car, we're all experiencing the same issue. Something must be done about this. How do I get rid of this car without the financial implications as I am far from trade-in value, the car hasn't even reached 3000km as I barely drive it due to the discomfort and concern for my safety on the road. I think the next step has to be the Ombudsman.
