I was told my factory warranty has expired even though the car is 2018 model

So I bought a second hand 2018 Renault Kadjar in January 2020 with about 29 000 km with a balance of service plan and warranty, I took the car in for service today and asked them to fix the stitching on one of the seats and I was advised that my factory warranty has expired as its a 3 year warranty and the extended warranty doesn't cover the repairs. When i inquired about this the service advisor said to me that the warranty of a vehicle becomes active when the car leave the factory not the day the car becomes registered but surprisingly the service plan became active the day the car was registered which was February 2020. Now i'm stuck with a car that has a torn seat and they want R13k for it while the car is still on warranty.
