Bad Parts , workmanship and Service Renault South Africa
Good day hellopeter
My 2018 Renault Duster engine starter problem and Motus Warrantee. We have had our vehicle since 30 December 2018 bought brand new from a dealership in the WC. Our vehicle has regular services with Renault dealerships. Our first issues with the starter unit started in 24 July2025 the Car engine just stop working while driving leaving me on the side of the road. The car was subsequently towed to Renault The Glen JHB. After back and forth communication with the dealership and Motus warrantee , they concluded that we needed to pay for the strip and quote to get to the root problem which we gave permission for as we had to pay.. The problem ended up being the started unit as the dealership then confirmed. After having the vehicle for weeks or so on the 29 August 2025 the quotation arrived and we had to pay for work to be done for the starter motor replacement. We eventually picked up the vehicle from the dealer on the 6th September 2025 . We drove that repaired vehicle across the road to Builders warehouse on that day. When we excited the Builders the car refused to start forcing us to contact the dealership for assistance to start the car again . The dealership Renault The Glen the told us it must be the battery and they had forgot to charge the battery overnight before handing us that vehicle that Saturday morning, subsequently they started the vehicle and took it back to Renault to put the battery on charge , hence we had to wait another 2 hours in the dealership. Once we received the vehicle unhappily we left the dealership only for the vehicle to stall on the 5 days later leaving me on the side of the road. The vehicle was subsequently transported to another dealership close by Renault Bruma Group JHB . They had done testing and found the starter unit which was replaced by The Glen dealership to be faulty and hence the process to have it replaced had started again. During this time I was offered no reparations of any kind by Renault and lodging a formal complaint with Renault South Africa on their websites and dealership , I was told by customer care Renault South Africa that they cannot do anything to the dealership as they Privately run so there will be no reparations and using my own cost to get around without a vehicle is par for course. A vehicle I am still paying for on finance a vehicle i am paying insurance and warrantee policy for that i am unbale to use. Moving On. After Bruma Renault Group had the vehicle a further 2 weeks before I was able to collect the vehicle and be on my way. On the 31 December 2025 scarcely 2 plus months later the car engine cut out on the N4 in Durban while we where on holiday what rotten luck. The car was towed to Ballito Renault. So we started the process again. They where sure that the starter had failed again. We were forced to Buy Air tickets and leave the car in KZN at the Ballito Dealership as the warrantee process had to start again . Renault have subsequently taken the vehicle apart only for them to come back to us last week to inform us that due to External factors the starter motor is burnt out and we have to pay further moneys for them to investigate these external factors. Needles to say it has been a fight between ourselves the dealership and the Motus warrantee people. After numerous complaint to Renault South Africa we have come to this point today. Renault South Africa. We are still without a vehicle and we cannot at this point be told that Renault does not know what the cause is for stater failure and me as the customer has to pay them to find out why there part is failing . The worst part is I feel no Care from Renault, absolutely the worst experience I have had to date in my adult life. I feel absolutely tired at this point continually having to follow up from my side as to what is happening with the vehicle. All I want is the vehicle back so I can sell it . I will never in my life buy any Renault vehicle again. We are now considering Legal action against Renault South Africa and the dealerships involved as this matter has drained any good will from our side as their customer which by the above actions has shown that Renault clearly Do Not Care in the slightest about Me their customer. Thank you for adhering to my complaint today.
