Reach Publishing - Buyer Beware.

In one sentence, my experience with Reach Publishers ended in bitter disappointment! I consider myself to be a person who is fair, and when I receive satisfactory service from my suppliers, I give them credit. Similarly, when I receive less than-acceptable service and the supplier invites me to give a review, then I say it as it is. Reach has invited me to do this review. My experience with them started well, those that walked me through the publishing process were friendly, helpful, and efficient. When I received a printer's proof copy I advised Joe, the man in charge of my project that it was not acceptable because it had a black print overlapping on both the top and side of the book's pages. Joe reassured me he would correct the fault if I mailed him approval to go ahead with printing. He sent me a corrected copy and the printing went ahead. Sadly, the correction was never made, and I sit with 400 books that have been rejected by my market (I live in Europe.) I have a mountain of correspondence with Reach on this matter, but they admitted to the printing error. By the way of concession, they offered to print another 400 books at the cost of R12,100. No mention of what I must do with the 400 defective books. When I explained that this was unacceptable and could they please find a distributor to sell the defective books and I would come to an agreement on the price, their response was to send me a marketing package and the name of a potential distributor. I spoke to their referee, who had no kind thing to say about Reach Publishing. I went back to Reach, who now pulled the legal wool over me. Their agreement of sale terms stipulated that I had fourteen days to reject the books after printing. I had no idea that a company that is based in Durban subcontracted with printers in Cape Town! Had the books been printed in KZN, I could have asked a friend to check them for me. In short, Reach chose not to help me with my dilemma of having 400 unsaleable books but to satisfy themselves by hiding behind the small print. I am an author and currently have three books in completed m****cripts ready for publishing. They will most certainly NOT go to Reach. P.S. I would not have given reach one star because of their uncaring attitude, but guess what? You can't post your review without giving them at least one star. Seems like Reach has the final stab - Who Knows?
