Breach of agreement: Unfulfilled publishing obligations, broken links, and poor support- Gods in Control

I paid Reach Publishers for a complete publishing package, including full upload, website setup, and global distribution services for my book (God's Warrior). While the book went live on Kindle on 19 September 2026, the overall service and subsequent management response have been a total breach of contract:

Non-Working Website and Store Links: Although a website was set up, it is completely non-functional for sales. As of 21 September 2026, the website buy buttons, Amazon links, and Takealot store links do not work, are not synced properly, and fail to direct customers to purchase the book.

Shifting Paid Work Onto the Author: Although I paid them to handle uploads, staff tried to force me to do it. On 16 September 2026, Caitlin sent an *** link, and I spent two frustrating hours battling to upload files due to errors originating from Kate's side—not mine. On 19 September 2026, Lodewyk sent instructions telling me to upload it myself rather than doing the job I paid for.

Threats and ************: On 21 September 2026, after I formally issued a breach of contract notice and refused to handle upload links that are explicitly their responsibility, management threatened to stop assisting me further. Threatening a paying client for expecting contracted deliverables is entirely unprofessional.

Incomplete Global Distribution: The package included broad international digital distribution across major global e-reader platforms and tens of thousands of international libraries, which were missed due to internal file errors and poor handling.

Poor Accountability: Staff have ignored queries, shifted blame, and claimed they cannot properly review m****cript errors because they are handling too many books at once.

Management has failed to rectify these issues, deliver the full service paid for, or fix the website links, resorting instead to threats. I am sharing my experience to caution other authors considering their services.

Dear Polo,

I am sorry to see that you have found the publishing of your first book unsatisfactory.

I will address the main points raised in your review, as several of the statements made do not accurately reflect the services provided, the correspondence between us, or the circumstances surrounding the remaining work.

Self-Publishing

Firstly, it is important to clarify the service you purchased.

Reach Publishers provides a self-publishing assistance service. The author remains the copyright holder and publisher of their book and retains control over the content, layout and final publication.

This is the process we have followed for more than 28 years, and the same process was followed with your book. Nothing proceeded to the next stage without your review and approval.

You were given opportunities throughout the process to review the manuscript, layout and cover, and you approved the final book for printing and publishing. Our email correspondence will confirm this.

Your supplied content was also provided largely as AI-generated content with flattened images. This created technical limitations because text contained within flattened images cannot be edited in the same way as editable text. These limitations were explained to you, and we proceeded using the material you supplied and the instructions and approvals received from you.

Printing

Once you approved the final design, your five complimentary paperback copies were printed and successfully delivered to you.

You subsequently raised a concern about a supposedly duplicated page. The page was contained in the material you supplied to us and was also present in the layouts provided to you for review and approval.

There was no clear indication from the supplied material that this particular page was intended to be removed, and you had approved the layout before it went to print.

Uploading and Online Services

Your Amazon KDP paperback upload was assisted via remote desktop. There were technical difficulties with the Kindle version, which were attended to promptly.

It is important to state that during the upload process, foul language was used towards the staff member assisting you. Our staff are expected to assist clients professionally and patiently, and we expect the same level of professional conduct in return.

Because of the continued difficulty during this interaction, we provided you with the necessary instructions to complete the updated Kindle upload yourself. This was done to allow the process to continue without further conflict and was accompanied by guidance. It was not an attempt to abandon the service or shift our responsibilities onto you.

We therefore do not accept the statement that Reach simply refused to perform work that you had paid for.

Website and Distribution

The website itself is functional. The purchasing buttons and links are dependent on the book being live and available through the relevant online retail platforms. Where a book has not yet gone live on a particular platform, the corresponding purchasing link cannot operate as a live sales link.

The remaining online distribution processes have also been explained to you, including the requirements and author involvement associated with certain platforms.

We therefore dispute the statement that the incomplete distribution was simply the result of “poor handling” or that Reach failed to provide the services included in your package.

Communication

We also strongly disagree with the statement that staff ignored your queries or shifted blame.

We have responded to your queries throughout the process and have repeatedly explained the requirements, limitations and procedures involved. The email correspondence between yourself and Reach provides a clear record of this communication.

The difficulties experienced have largely resulted from the format of the material supplied, technical issues with the online platforms, and disagreements regarding the procedures required to complete the remaining services.

Legal Threats and Current Position

There is also an important point regarding your allegation that management “threatened” you.

You formally raised a breach-of-contract/legal dispute with Reach. In response, you were advised that the remaining processes would be placed on hold until the legal matter had been resolved.

This was not a threat. It was a reasonable procedural response to a formal legal dispute.

In addition, throughout the process our staff have had to deal with foul language and inappropriate communication, despite continuing to assist you professionally. This is not acceptable and cannot simply be disregarded when considering the circumstances surrounding the decision to place the package on hold.

In Conclusion

We stand by the services provided and the position communicated to you.

We have answered your questions, provided assistance throughout the publishing process, obtained your approvals at the relevant stages, printed and delivered your complimentary copies, assisted with the online uploads and continued to provide guidance regarding the remaining services.

We therefore do not accept the suggestion that Reach has simply failed to deliver the publishing package or that staff have ignored you or deliberately shifted blame.

Your review presents a very one-sided version of a matter that remains disputed, while leaving out significant parts of the correspondence and circumstances that led to the current position.

Due to the formal legal dispute and the unacceptable communication directed towards our staff, the remaining publishing processes have been placed on hold until the matter is resolved through the appropriate channels.

If you wish to resolve the matter and continue with the remaining publishing services without pursuing the legal dispute, you are welcome to contact me directly.

Kind regards,
Lodewyk

Reviewer Update
Dear Lodewyk, Your attempt to reclassify a full-service, R23,920 professional publishing package into a "do-it-yourself" arrangement is legally indefensible. Let the public record show: The Timeline: My formal Letter of Demand was issued on 23 September 2026, giving you until 25 September 2026 to rectify these breaches—a deadline that has now passed unfulfilled. The Contractual Breach: You admitted in writing to refusing uploads ("Reach Publishers will not assist with further upload processes"), forcing a paying client to self-upload despite a comprehensive paid invoice. The Legal Status: Passing the buck on statutory Legal Deposit obligations (SANB), springing "No editing" notices days after payment cleared on 02 July 2026, and leaving e-commerce website links completely broken after the book went live on 19 September 2026 are clear material breaches of contract. Calling a formal consumer breach notice a "threat" does not erase your failure to deliver. This matter is now moving past public reviews and straight to the Small Claims Court. Regards, Polo

Dear Polo,

Your response has been received and noted.

I am sorry to hear that you have decided to continue with legal action rather than complete the remaining publishing process with the guidance and assistance provided by Reach Publishers.

We will respect your decision and allow the matter to proceed through the appropriate channels.
