Failure to assist buyer of property

We relocated to the Western Cape in November 2014.
The property was sold with an oven which lead to the conclusion that it would have been in working order.
After we moved in it became clear the oven was not working.
My wife loves to bake and a working oven is a necessity.
We consulted with two independent electricians (for whom we had to pay call-out fees) and the verdict in both instances were that parts to repair the oven was not available and the oven should be replaced.
As suggested by the agents, the seller offered to pay 50% of the price of a new oven.
We've discussed the issue with both the current as well as the previous chairman of the Body Corporate and they expressed their surprise with the reluctance from the seller's side to replace the faulty oven. They also disagreed with the idea of a 50/50 split in paying for a replacement oven. (If there was a similar problem with for example the geyser, we are sure it would have been replaced. The fact that there was an oven at the time of purchase created the expectation it was in working order.)
After six months we were not yet refunded for the replaced oven.

.
