Ashes to Ashes

When my mother passed away in April we wanted to have her ashes sent to Namibia for burial there on a family site. After her memorial on 2 May we started makinig courier enquiries.

I contacted DHL who immediately told me that they do not "do" human remains. So, when I called RAM I first checked and was told there would be no problem. Collection was arranged after payment had been made and off the ashes went. 2 days later I started to receive emails from RAM requesting enbalming certificates as well as an invoice etc and the Namibian Health Department got involved etc. Thankfully Doves was amazing and supp**** all the required docs but still the urn remained at the border 4 days later.

Eventually, when I was asked whether these were in fact human remains ( really ? ) I decided it best to have the urn returned to Cape Town and requested a full refund which was agreed by Mr Echardt and I was copied in on an email to the sales person Monique who was supposed to action this refund. The urn was returned to us and we sent it off with Doves' help. The ashes were in Namibia 24 hours later.

Since then I have emailed, called, emailed some more, spoken to a seemingly more efficient sales person and promised that a supervisor would look into this.

Well it is now August and we are nowhere near having received a refund or an apology for this atrocious uninformed service.
