Ongoing Frustration with Vodacom Upgrade and RAM Delivery Service
Writing and complaining about Vodacom is unfortunately becoming the norm. In fact, just two weeks ago, I submitted another complaint. As usual, a lady called me, acknowledged that my complaint had been received, and then nothing came of it. This time, I was persistently contacted by a lady for two days regarding an upgrade. Initially, I told her that I was not interested, but she eventually convinced me to take the upgrade, which I accepted on Wednesday. I subsequently received an email and SMS confirming that RAM would deliver my parcel to my workplace today. At around 12:30, I realised that there was very little time left, as we knock off at 13:00. I tried calling RAM to explain my situation, but I was left waiting on the phone for approximately 12 minutes without receiving assistance. I then contacted RAM via WhatsApp and changed the delivery address to my home. However, the system indicated that the delivery would now take place on Monday. Unfortunately, I will not be at home on Monday, as I will be at work. As a last resort, I contacted Vodacom to explain that I could not get hold of RAM. The Vodacom consultant advised me that changing the delivery address would result in another 72-hour delay. My frustration is that I had promised my teenager that he would receive his new phone today. Because of these delivery issues, he may now have to wait through the entire weekend and potentially another 72 hours before receiving it. Out of sheer frustration, I ultimately decided to cancel the upgrade. This makes me wonder how many upgrade consultants are successfully convincing customers to take upgrades, only for those customers to end up cancelling because of delivery problems with RAM. This situation not only affects the customer but also potentially undermines the work done by Vodacom's upgrade consultants. There are also several issues with RAM's customer service that need attention. When calling RAM, the automated system says that you can select an option to speak to a consultant, yet that option does not actually seem to exist. That is extremely frustrating when you are genuinely trying to resolve a delivery problem. Furthermore, when providing customers with a tracking number, why not also provide the driver's contact number? Having the driver's number would allow customers to communicate directly with the driver and make reasonable arrangements regarding delivery, especially when there are time constraints. Lastly, RAM seriously needs to consider increasing the number of staff at its call centre. Waiting 12 minutes just to get assistance is unacceptable, particularly when the customer is trying to resolve an urgent delivery issue. I hope this complaint is taken seriously. I am not simply complaining for the sake of complaining; I am highlighting a process that is clearly frustrating customers and, in this instance, resulted in me cancelling an upgrade that I had initially agreed to take.
