Wouldn't pay claim because of no damage report, now want me to pay for the damage report

My geyser burst on Aug 24 and I called PSG Insure the next day and told them. I have a solar heating system and they sent out people to do a damage report assessment which they did. I however did not want to use PSG's service provider to do the actual repairs, as I felt more comfortable using my own service provider because of the complexity of the solar heating system and I indicated this to them. They gave me the run around and eventually after almost a week with no hot water I simply asked my service provider to come and do the repairs thinking I could deal with the insurance after the fact.

Ironically on the day while the repairs were being done PSG figured out they have a process for which people can use their own service provider, and told me that while my geyser was being fixed. However, they failed to mention anything I needed to do other then pay an extra excess (which I said I was fine with). Once the repairs were done, and my service provider had left then they sent me the requirements for making the claim, which included getting a damage report from the service provider.

I told them they already had a damage report from their service provider and I was not going to call my service provider out again to do that. They would not budge so out of frustration I told them to cancel the claim. To me it really seemed they had no interest in helping, making me wait ages without hot water just to tell me after everything was done what I needed to do, and then being unreasonable about getting a damage report which they already had.

Now they've informed me that I need to pay for the initial damage report that was done because I cancelled the claim, the damage report which their service provider did but wasn't good enough to use to pay my claim!

Dear Heath

Please accept our apologies for this misunderstanding. We have reviewed our telephone recordings and have established that you were not made aware of the requirement to pay the callout fee for our approved service provider. This was an error on our part and we will therefore waive this fee. We are sorry for the miscommunication on our part and for the frustration this had caused you.

Regards
