Dismal and unprofessional service

We are a small pre-school in Randpark Ridge. Daisy Dumplings. We are not insurance experts.

- A parent crashed her car into our main gate - We contacted our broker at PSG, Zandra Van der Merwe - Was sent a claim form to complete - Was asked to submit 2 quotes - Was given a GO-AHEAD for the repair +/- R6000 - Placed the order with the contractor and paid 70% deposit - Later in the day, we get a SORRY from Zandra Van der Merwe - She says - I made a mistake - you are not covered for this, I didn’t look, see, notice, was too busy, (didn’t bother) to check your policy, Sorry

Is this acceptable / reputable / professional behaviour from an insurance broker who is supposed to be our advisor on these issues? I think not. We are now out of pocket for around R6000.

The response I have received from my so-called insurance “advisor" is nothing less than despicable / unacceptable and beyond unprofessional. The we-could-not-care attitude of this company is mind-blowing. I am now being told that they cannot be held accountable for giving us WRONG advice as this was a repair that "we would have done anyway". How does she know that we would have done it anyway? If we had not been given a WRONG go-ahead for the repair there would have been any number of other options open to us regarding what we would or would not have decided to do at the time. The reason we went ahead with the repair was BECAUSE we got an erroneous / thoughtless / couldn't-care-less response from our all-knowing advisor telling us that we were covered, when WE WERE NOT. They simply refuse to accept any responsibility for this - other than saying "SORRY". Where does the responsibility lie when one cannot trust the advice from our advisor? According to this beyond-dismal-company - it certainly does not lie with them.

Dear Gail

Unfortunately, your policy does not include building cover. Your adviser’s recommendation to add this cover was previously not followed (as you indicated that the owners of the school property had cover in place) and the lack of cover was highlighted to you again when you renewed your policy in 2016. As you required an urgent response from your adviser on the matter while she was travelling – and as building cover is generally standard in a policy such as yours – she unfortunately indicated that she assumed the cover would be in place. This was a human error made under time pressure, and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you.

As previously indicated, your adviser has been in contact to advise on the alternatives available to you to recoup this cost and will continue to assist you in the process.
