Lost cellphone from company premises

I took my cellphone to procell at protea Glen mall before the week of the looting incident. I had bought the phone approximately six months ago from the week I took it to procell. When I went back to get it they told me that I can't get it back and they are not going to pay for the lost/ looted cellphone. Can I please get help of how I can go about with this.
