Dishonest Sales Practices

Although the mobility scooter itself is acceptable, my experience with Pride Mobility Scooters has been unacceptable.

I was assured that the scooter could be claimed from my medical aid. At no stage was I informed that no NAPPI code exists for this product. This only came to light later, despite me having sufficient medical aid funds and benefits. This is material information that should have been disclosed before any payment was requested.

I was pressured to pay a deposit immediately, which felt ********* and unprofessional. I was also misled regarding the scooter’s speed control, as the actual functionality did not match what was promised.

When I contacted the company to raise these concerns, they were brushed off and no effort was made to address or accommodate my requested needs.

I expect Pride Mobility Scooters to formally acknowledge these issues and engage with me to provide a fair and appropriate resolution. Until then, I strongly caution prospective customers to verify all claims before making any payment.

Dear Jacques T,

We are sorry you feel this way, especially as the company assisted you in this matter so that you could acquire the scooter.  We have been providing mobility scooters in South Africa for over a decade and we are arguably the largest importer and distributor of mobility scooters in SA.

At the time of the demonstration, you were adamant that the medical aid would contribute to the scooter of “approximately a third of the cost”, as quoted in your email dated 17 December.  You were advised at that time that we do not work with medical aids as they are looking for the cheapest solution, not necessary the best solution and that we do not have Nappi codes.  As we do not deal with them, how would they know that they contribute approximately a third in the first instance?  Despite the Product Specialist’s advice, you were insistent they would pay a portion.  To help you, the Product Specialist called a senior manager and the company decided to assist you by reducing the cost of the scooter.  He did state that you are more than welcome to try get a contribution from the medical aid, but advised it was doubtful it would work and suggested that you could rather keep those funds for other necessities where quality wasn’t as important.

In your letter dated 17 December, to which we responded, you made no mention of the Nappi Codes, simply stating that we omitted to advise you that we weren’t registered as a service provider with the HPCSA.  This is only required if you wish to engage with medical aids which would be fruitless as explained previously.

While you may wish to warn potential customers away from us with this accusation, despite the company assisting you, our customer rating of 4.82 is a strong testimony to the service and product we provide to our customers.

We do wish you the best and trust you are enjoying your Pride Mobility scooter.

Kind regards

The Team @ Pride Mobility
