Be careful what you cover your pool with ...

We ordered a cover at the end of Sep. When they eventually installed it 2 weeks later we discovered a small tear along the joined seam and asked them to take it back and replace as it cost us R9.5 thousand and the tear was all the way through. Whoever joined the plastic must’ve been aware of it and yet PowerPlastics chose to install without letting us know about it. After a week they came to fetch it and found another hole all the way through at one end. After another week we were asked when we wanted to return the cover? At this point we became direct and demanded appropriate service. We started dealing with the national measles manager who first wanted to know where the cover was, then told us she’d “been downstairs but couldn’t see any damage in the cover” and that they were not going to replace it. She was referred to the installers and then said the damage was minor and “didn’t go all the way through”. Again she was referred to the installers but remained resolute that PowerPlastics would NOT replace the cover. She said it would be repaired and returned. We capitulated and agreed as long as the repairs were good and invisible. Again nothing was heard from PowerPlastics and we had to get an attorney to phone her and she was given 7 days to have the cover back in our pool. The cover was returned on the 4th day but the hole hadn’t been repaired. On the 7th day the installers returned and repaired that. We now have a cover with 2 very visible blemishes but we decided to cut our losses and get rid of this company which we have used twice before. At no point did they seem concerned by this or even offer a discount, nothing. There were many outright lies from various staff, including the national sales manager. My advice would be to stay far away from this company.

Hi Mr Beesley  Oh dear, this virus stuff is getting to everyone – thankfully we’ve not appointed a National Measles Manager but yes, our National Sales Manager did try and assist in every way possible.  It is also important to note that this all transpired while you were overseas and your father took the decision to insist on a repair which we felt was not needed and we advised against. The recommendation we gave is copied below and our stance remains the same.  Good afternoon Mr. Beesley,  I am sorry to hear that your experience has not been good with us thus far.  We appreciate your loyalty to our company and would like to thank you for placing an order with us again.  From your past experience you will know that our quality is excellent and that these covers are very durable.  We do not believe the cut in the cover warrants any concern in terms of performance or longevity.  If you would like us to apply some heat to the cut to solder it, we can do so.  The cut has not pierced through the bubble and is insignificant in terms of the overall cover finish.  Please may we return the cover to you and we will place a note of your concerns on our records.  We are happy to support all our products with after-sales service and you are assured of our best attention at all times.

Here are two of the many lies I mentioned above. 1. At no time did you advise us not to repair the cover - in fact this is exactly what you wanted us to do which prompted us to use the example of buying a garment with a tear from an upmarket boutique and then settling for an unsightly stitch up. 2. The tear went right through because when we noticed it after you’d furtively installed it we could see how the water welled up through it when it was depressed. I notice you failed to refer to the second hole and the damaged bubbles underneath - that was pointed out by your very own technicians. I’m not going to get into a time wasting spat with you, however your attitude as evidenced in your reply here underlines the tone of dismissal and refusal to accept accountability that we’ve experienced throughout this saga. Yes, our 3rd time using your company but NEVER again. The fact that I was overseas had no bearing on this issue - I was continuously in contact with my wife and father-in-law and saw all the pathetic emails from your national sales manager. I chose to stop replying, if you’ll remember, because I’d given her an ultimatum that we would begin proceedings against your company, and that we actually had to get an attorney to contact you speaks volumes about your company’s lack of service and integrity. We have all the emails and photos should any prospective customers like to see them and make up their own minds. My suggestion to you is that you conduct a deep review of your business ethics and customer service - but that’s no longer my concern; goodbye and good luck.
