Terrible experience- no previous claims

I do not recommend this insurer.

Be cautious with this insurer. Upon claiming I was informed of page 10 of their contract, I discovered an unexpected clause.

Standard Additional Excesses (x2)

1. Driver at the time of the incident is neither the regular driver nor the regular driver's spouse; OR

2. Claim incident within 6 months from the vehicle cover start date; OR

3. Incident driver under the age of 25; OR

4. Incident driver licensed less than three years; OR

5. The incident occurred between the hours of 22:00 and 06:00; OR

6. Incident occurred outside the South African borders; OR

7. Vehicle not roadworthy; OR

8. Single vehicle accident.

I was involved in a single-vehicle accident where I scratched a pillar, and because no other cars were involved, my excess was doubled to R6200 x2 = R12 400.

Insurance is supposed to protect against unexpected events, which is why we pay monthly premiums. However, when I filed a claim, I found myself responsible for the entire repair cost plus monthly premiums.
