Car insurance - misinformation, ********* practices and horrible admin
The most horrible service I've ever received from an insurer. Actually quite unimaginable. I took out a policy on 31 August for both my cars and told them to start cover on 1 September for the first car, and 1 October for the second car as I already had insurance on the latter and had to give 31-day notice to my then insurer. I further selected a debit order date of the 27th of each month. I get policy documents with these details including policy anniversary dates of the 1st of the month in the schedule as requested by me. I also informed them that while the second car is with me for now, I will be moving it to another address in 2 or so months (I don't need two cars when my family doesn't have one). They didn't express any concern over this and were quick to say it was okay, I could always change the regular driver and address - which makes sense because the premium can be risk-adjusted. Weeks later they send me multiple policy documents, which I don't scrutinise because I never requested any changes to my policy so I just assume it's my schedule as it was. Mid-October I request that the regular address and driver be changed on the second car. I get told that the regular driver cannot be a sibling, it can only be my spouse or child and had to live with me. When I question this and the obvious misinformation they gave me at inception, they come back to apologise for the misinformation and now say it can only be a parent, spouse or child. I ask them to confirm to me that they really don't have any policyholders on book who don't have more than one car covered at different addresses, driven by people other than the policyholder's child, spouse or parent. Also, I ask why these parameters are not included in the disclosed terms of the policy or given to me during the quotation when specifically stated my intentions for this change. Of course I got no response. I then go on to cancel my policy and ask that my last cover date be 31st of October, only to be told that my last cover date can only be the 27th of October because my debit order date is the 27th. Basically, their system can't differentiate between a debit order date and policy anniversary date. This obviously cannot be true so I go back to my emails to look at the multiple documents that they had sent me AFTER I had taken out the policy. Surprise surprise, they had changed my policy anniversary date from the 1st to the 27th, without my request or consent. So as we speak, they have sent me cancellation notice as of yesterday instead of the cancellation date I actually asked for. All of this does not include the admin nightmare I went through when they made multiple debit orders on my account at the start of the policy, which I had to request they reverse. I would not advise that anyone insures something they value highly with Pineapple.
