Breach of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA)

I am extremely disappointed with Pineapple Insurance.

Despite being registered on the Direct Marketing Association’s official Do Not Contact list, Pineapple continues to phone me on my business cellphone number with unsolicited sales calls.

This is a clear breach of the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) and the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), both of which give consumers the right to refuse direct marketing and have their details removed from marketing databases.

I have requested that my number be removed, yet Pineapple persists in ignoring my rights. What makes this even worse is that my cellphone is strictly for business purposes. I work in a sales role, and these repeated calls are interfering with my work, disrupting my business operations, and negatively impacting the efficient running of my business.

I expect Pineapple to immediately: 1. Remove my number from all their databases. 2. Confirm in writing that they will not contact me again.

I am posting this so that other consumers are aware of Pineapple’s disregard for both the law and the rights of individuals who have formally opted out of direct marketing, as well as the negative impact such conduct can have on business professionals.
