Pickford's Worldwide Removing and Loosing Goods

Me and my family moved from CPT to Centurion 2 months ago. After being quoted & taking out insurance with the removal. We were promised that our goods will be taken care of and there staff could be trusted to take care of our goods. That they would pack and unpack with us to ensure nothing is damaged or broken once delivered.

The packing of our goods went well they did everything and all went smooth. But when it came to delivery it was more of a rush to drop and go.

They arrived at 10h30 on the 5th of June and introduced themselves and started offloading the boxes. They put most of the boxes in our double garage as there was more space.

They moved our Queen size bed in the passage of our house on its side where I had to ask them to move to bedroom and just turn it on its base. The kitchen boxes they moved in the kitchen

The couch was put in the living room and we were already missing the legs of the couches which I asked one of the drivers to help me look for.

I asked them when they were almost done unloading don’t you guys unpack and they said no they don’t unpack

I had to ask one of them to atleast please help me unpack the kitchen stuff to make sure nothing is broken like glassware etc.

By the time we were done unpacking the kitchen boxes the truck driver came in and asked me to sign as he already checked everything. I told him how can I sign I did not check he asked if I took out insurance I said yes. He said ok should anything be missing or broken just contact the office. They were in more of a hurry to get done with the work. The very next day we already got a call from Pickford’s looking for another families chair if they might have offloaded it with our stuff. I checked there was no chair.

I could not unpack immediately as I had to work. My partner unpacked when she came down and started in the house by the time she cleared our sons room she went to the Garage to get his Winnie the Pooh bed to put it in his room she could not find it and phoned me at work. She looked behind the boxes behind the folded poker table could not find it. She then phoned Pickford’s to advise them of our issues but they encouraged her to first unpack all the boxes then let them know. So we started unpacking and we started find things missing like my laptop as we have many electronics. The bed she specifically remember not being taken apart as they loaded it on the truck in Cape Town with the bedding on and had taped of his toys and stuff to the bed.

We not saying it was ****** but we did ask them to check with the other people whose stuff was also on the truck with ours. Maybe they offloaded it with their stuff the same as they were looking for the other family chair by us. The way the truck was packed it looked like there were 3 families including our stuff packed and was only cordoned off with rope we said maybe it shifted over to their side. We don’t know. We got the call from Pickford’s in JHB they said they will investigate but still we haven’t heard from them to this day whether they phone the other families or not.We have been really patient as I understand for almost 2 months the insurance was investigating. Today we got feedback and they are not covering missing stuff and we basically lost our goods wich we entrusted in their care. But because Pickfords were in such a hurry to drop and go there negligence cost our son not having a bed to sleep in and my work laptop and other stuff i cant replace all at once. Id Think twice before using Pickfords to move your goods. As certain staff members are more in a hurry to get the job done and not double checking with you that they delivered to the correct homes.
