Damaged goods, zero accountability and regard for customers belongings.
We used Pickfords when we moved from Jhb to Cape Town and would never use this company again. In our initial move from Jhb to Cape Town, their movers damaged our bedroom mattress. We accepted accidents happen and filed a claim accordingly with their insurance company. My husband's vehicle was also damaged by another vehicle's canopy as the third company they used to transport his vehicle did not take the proper precautions when they kept the vehicle in storage in Jhb before transporting it to Cape Town. This company also informed my husband the day before our scheduled move that they don't cover vehicles older than ten years and because we had no choice at that point we were forced to use them. Our own insurance then had to cover the claim. Their insurance company also tried to lowball us for the mattress and when we initially submitted the claim questioned whether we cannot just fix the mattress which had a big hole in it! On the day of the delivery in Cape Town, their movers came to us in the afternoon at 2pm. Because of the height restrictions in the complex, their truck would not be allowed in the complex and my husband organized a shuttle with their admin department in advance which they didn't book. The movers were therefore only able to enter our complex at 5pm and had to vacate the premises at 6pm as no moving companies are allowed after 6pm. After rushing the move, they expected my husband to sign their GRV but he refused as our stuff was still in boxes and we were not going to sign until we had inspected our goods and had to get their manager to intervene. We also had left our furniture, which we had paid to be wrapped, in storage with them when we initially moved to Cape Town temporarily until we settled to a bigger place and so despite the challenges from the previous move had to use them again. All of our furniture that had been in storage was either scratched or chipped in some way. Every single item. Our desk which was not in storage appeared to have been damaged by their movers who were in a hurry and did not handle our stuff properly (they also only sent two guys). Once again, their insurance doesn't want to pay the claim. They are only paying R700 for the desk as they are claiming the other items weren't covered weren't covered despite us paying for it and our desk is definitely not worth R700. They take zero accountability. When my husband spoke to their operational manager to report the damaged furniture on the same day, he sarcastically told him he finds it hard to believe all our furniture was damaged. We are not ****s and don't need to have deal with the stress of having to replace our furniture again after what has already been a horrible experience with them. We even recommended the assessor from their insurance come out and inspect the furniture but there has been no response. Their insurer assumes our desk can be restored to it's original state with R700 but the furniture company confirmed there is nothing that can be done. My husband spoke to one of their employees Carmen Williams and when he told her he would report them to the CPA, she went off on him and told him he was rude and threatening her and then hung up! Nothing professional about this moving company and absolutely no accountability.
