Worst internal management structures and policy in retail I have ever came across.
after MONTHS of hard work and planning, we have setup a meeting with PnP baby buying department, to list a product. Nelisa Poni was rude from the onset to my secretary, but upon meeting, (Which we had to make special arrangements and planning to get to Cape Town for the meeting), Nelisa quickly changed her behaviour. She absolutely loved the product and promised to send the application forms for my client to complete, so that she can list her product, or at least communicate with my company on the way forward. An observation is that ; as a big Cancer ambassador, and my client having cancer herself, PnP clearly has no sense of urgency wrt to the topic. Nevertheless, after numerous attempts to make contact with Nelisa, we resorted to the CEO, just to be told by reception that it is not policy to speak to him. So it became evident that PnP has a "shut door" policy. Working in the Media relations & communications field, I can tell you, that this is not a very good policy to adapt. Especially in South Africa. Bottom line is: The service and assistance received from PnP sofar is appaling to say the least. It is unacceptable for a corporate company such as PnP to have a shut door policy, for their PA's and secretaries to be rude, and for having no communication AT ALL. Not even so much as an acknowledgement of our communication. Regardless of hat the communication is. I believe in a simple " Thank you for your communication we have received, we will get back to you by latest...…." and then sticking to that promise. It is a cardinal rule in retail that you treat you internal as well as external stakeholders with the upmost respect, keeping communication open and clear, and most of all keeping your promise. So far my experience with Pick n Pay, has shown me that their organisation has NO retail values, and if I can pick up on that, you can be sure that the consumer will as well. Having extensive retail experience myself, and having provided numerous training materials for retail, I can assure you that it is just as important to train and keep your internal stakeholders happy, engaged, positive and productive. This was not seen at PnP, and I would suggest that they work on their internal communication s****s. I will still try and make progress with regards to my client's needs, as I strongly believe in customer satisfaction, unlike PnP apparently.... It is of the upmost importance that I find the correct distribution and retail partner for my client's unique product. I'm no longer so sure that it would be Pick n Pay, unless they shape up on all departments, starting with their buying department, and in particular Nelisa Poni.
