worst customer service
Pick n Pay Ferndale on Republic for the worst customer service by the manager by the name of Themba.
The incident occurred when I was at the pay point I produced two rain cheque cashier lady called the manager to come and assist with the Rain Cheque as I wanted to redemption of the rain cheque offer, the manager came over and never greeted just took the rain cheques left the pay point advise the cashier that he does not understand these things (referring to the rain cheques) he will enquiry from other colleague, he wait to the working station and left the front area. I stood at the pay point for some time.
While I was waiting at the pay point Themba return with other gentleman a colleague and I was asked which store are the ran cheque from I advise that unfortunately I cannot recall from which Pick n Pay I received them from but I can check by calling my mom, so Themba advise that due to that these rain cheques are not from Pick n Pay Ferndale on Republic so cannot be used in his store. I must go back to the store that I got the rain cheque from and they should assist me from Pick n Pay Ferndale on Republic the nothing they can do. The another colleague advice Themba that he allow me to use the rain cheque but Themba started becoming unreasonable by advise that he would not do that and , I must just go to back to the store I got the rain cheque from but I enquired that did he see the time it late at 19h03, the store I got the rain cheque from is the Pick n Pay the Glen Mall, that the store manager at the Glen Mall advise me that I can redeem the rain cheque at any Pick n Pay Stores and after that Themba left us at the pay point to the workstation in front of the store to make a call. Themba return and advise that he just got off the phone with store manager and the store manager said no they should assist me, so I enquired that can I speak to the store manager directly but was advice that the store manager was currently on leave. I further enquired that if the store manager was on leave he cannot be making decision while on leave that against labour law and also the Consumer Protection Act.
I then google the rain cheque terms and condition as per the Pick n Pay website: as per below outline
rain cheque - Should there be an item on special that is out of stock, you can receive a rain cheque for that item. A rain cheque guarantees that when you come back for that same item, within a 30-day period, you will pay the reduced advertised price.
• Terms and conditions apply:
• Rain cheques do not apply to clearance sales, limited offer promotions and end of range sales.
• Rain cheques will only be offered in store, if there is not stock.
• A maximum of 10 units per item can be given on a rain cheque.
• Rain cheques cannot be redeemed over a period of time, it is a once-off redemption of the rain cheque offer.
• The rain cheque expires after 30 days and cannot be claimed after that.
After reading the these terms and conditions to Themba, I explained that the no point that advise that says only redeemable from the store the consumer has obtain it from. I then enquired that can the area manager be contact to address this issue.
Themba response from here was rude advice that the Pick n Pay Ferndale on Republic has no area manager that after store manager it the owner so he will not contact the owner for such a pity issue.
I then explained what the Consumer Protection Act say
A store that has run out of an advertised special will typically offer you some type of compensation such as a "rain check" or discount coupon (unless the ad stated "quantity limited"). Consumer Protection Act (CPA) protect consumers from stores using misleading advertising practices.
When a grocery store runs out of an advertised special, the consumer is entitled to one of three remedies:
· A "rain check" allowing the customer to buy the item later at the sale price
· A substitute item of comparable value to the sale item
· Some kind of compensation that is at least equal in value to the advertised item
After this Themba said his word is finally, I should do whatever, so I took out my phone recorded his face making a fool, humility me in front of other consumers and Themba walked away leaving me at the pay point I paid for the other items I had picked and the cashier lady apologies.
This my complaint and can I kindly request that it be addressed in a proper manner as today I told myself that I will never return to Pick n Pay Ferndale on Republic.
