WINGS GONE WRONG
Yesterday we purchased(mom) 12pk wings which had been marked down to R35 around 3/4pm at Pick n pay mabopane(lifestyle). It took her atleast 10mins to get back home and place them in the fridge. That was done!
About an hour later I went to the fridge and there was a funky smell,I immediately figured it could be the wings as I saw that RED MARK DOWN STICKER. I smelt them closer and make everyone including mom smell them. She said she just took them and placed them in the trolley especially coz they seemed semi-frozen(maybe the smell wasn't as bad).
I then drove down to pick n pay to return them and I was "assisted" by a lady named Ivy. Firstly she told me they DONT take back mark down items. Secondly she removed the top RED MARK DOWN label to show me the "sell-by date" which was the 17th. Then she continued telling me that whoever purchased the wings should have checked before taking them.
Now here's my biggest problem....Does a sell by date automatically mean the food cannot be consumed anymore? Why hide the sell by date with that big red sticker? Why can't items that have been marked down be returned especially when they are of such bad nature? Do you mark down rotten food?
I was fuming and told the lady I wanted to return them and she eventually called some young lady to come to a "return" and refund me...oh and throw them away as waste. My issue wasn't the money as it's R35 though it was disappointing that a whole Pick n pay would sell such or is it because of the location and the fact that households around would take those wings just for the price?
We really love supporting local though honestly the treatment in townships is ***. Such would never happen in ur menlyn or brooklyn stores.
I am so angry I thought I would let it slide...though I thought of all the grannies earning grants and purchasing reduced items at the very same pick n pay to cater for their households. It's sad . I even took pics, they didn't like it though they had no say with regard to my phone
