Tsakani Sy Kubayi stinking and arrogant service at Pick 'n Pay Rand Steam 15 March 2020 13:10 pm
Yesterday on the 15th March 2020 at around 13:10 pm I made a purchase of the Sunday Times newspaper copy at the Pick 'n Pay Rand Steam. I gave the cashier named Tsakani Sy Kubayi my smart shopper card as well to swipe concurrently with the purchase of the newspaper, she didn't greet me as per company policy and carried on with her conversation with the male till packer at that moment, I gave her R40 (of which was 2 R20 notes) as my payment. She had a disdainful demeanour towards me and after the transaction was completed I left the store. Within minutes of being outside the store I read my till slip to check the points I have earned so far today and only to find out she didn't bother swiping my smart shopper card, because as the till receipt showed I could have earned 13 cents with my purchase. I immediately went back inside the store to confront her about this, I first waited politely for her to serve the client she was busy with and then after that I told her that she didn't swipe my smart shopper card and not in an erratic way and she didn't bother apologising to me as according to her I didn't seem fit, proper and worthy of an apology, she responded back by saying did I really give her my smart shopper card, I answered and said yes, she looked at my receipt and said she can give me back the 10 cents as purported by her and then I said no I need the points to be accrued on my smart shopper card and she again gave me a disdainful demeanour and took the newspaper and rung it on the system and then swiped my smart shopper card now, and reconciled the purchase by asking for my personal details like name and cellphone number I comp**** courteously without making any scene. Even after completing the reconciling transaction she didn't bother apologising to me and carried on as if nothing happened. What irks me is that she first profiled me and thought highly of herself because I was Black and saw no purpose in greeting me and having the notion of expecting me to greet her first as the rules now must swop when dealing with a Black client and she showed no effort to show respect towards me as a client as she presumably assumed I was a blue collar worker who was illiterate and stupid who isn't assigned to sound customer service. Secondly she had the nerve and cheek to undermine me by suggesting I should settle for the mere 10 cents cash from her rather than her correcting her error. Thirdly she should have done herself a favour by doing a SWOT analysis of the kind of clientele she is servicing around the area where the Pick 'n Pay Rand Steam is based, as the segment of the people around there are students, middle income earners and high net worth individuals around Westcliff, Melville, Milpark, Auckland Park, Emmarentia and as well as far as Braamfontein. Fourthly her ******** and arrogant attitude exposed her as an *********** imbecile and ********* who wanted to rob me of what rightfully belongs to me by thinking as a client I don't know my rights and would let her get away with it by not reporting her to Pick 'n Pay Customer Service Call Centre because of her shoddy client service. I then contacted Pick 'n Pay Customer Service Call Centre to alert them of this shoddy service at Pick 'n Pay Rand Steam by this arrogant imbecile cashier named Tsakani Sy Kubayi and layed my official grievance with them and I spoke to a nice and courteous agent named Zandile, who was understanding of my anger and ill mistreatment and promised to expedite my grievance to the store manager. Later at around 3pm I received a phone call from the store manager named Wendy who apologised and showed remorse of the *********** service from her cashier Tsakani Sy Kubayi. I told her I have reported her because I felt how many other Black clients she has mistreated them and violated their rights who can't speak for themselves, left her off the hook without reporting her. I informed her of the whole scenario that I was calm and collected when dealing with her and she mistook that for me as a fool and I needed this to be documented so that in future no repetition of this shoddy service is done to another Black client and she promised to institute a disciplinary warning against her and we left it at that. This should alarm other cashiers at Pick 'n Pay who lack the understanding that they are the reflection and image of the company when they are frontline staff members and shouldn't take clients for granted and assume that they are not under the radar and can go unreported for their shoddy service. Pick 'n Pay didn't make a mistake by having introduced the Smart Shopper Card to their customers as they wanted them to earn cashback points of which later they can redeem for any purchases of their choice in the store. Staff members shouldn't take clients for a ride to cover up their mistake and profile them thinking they'll get away with ******.
