traumatic experience - Brentwood Park

First i would like to mention my husband and i have been loyal customers of Pick n Pay, and its Brentwood Park store for years.

We have always done a full months worth of shopping of groceries and other items.

on the 6th August 2017, we set out to do our usual shop at our local store.

We had our two small children with us, 3 years and 7 months.

we took our trolly and set off. keeping in mind we had our baby in his pram.

while shopping our trolly became very full, and nearing the end of our shop. we still needed to get our babys formual and nappies.

which we placed in the bottom of the pram, as two big tins of formual and two packets of nappies couldnt fit in the trolly nor could we carry them, my son was even squished with items around him.

we got to our till to pay for our goods. as i was unpacking my husband was helping and keeping the kids occupied. he took the nappies out from under the pram, and there still wasnt space for them nor the formulas. so he placed the nappies ontop of the pram (which kept falling on the floor)

he then went to get smokes and returned to the till.

we paid and went to leave the store.

We were stopped by a very arrogant security guard by the name of Gift, who checked our slip and told us to go back inside. which we then shockingly realised we had forgotten to take the formula tins out and pay for them. we agreeingly went inside and apologised for our mistake and said we would pay for them. Mr Gift then refused us to pay - or actually didnt even give us that option. he then grabbed the pram which still had our baby in, and the tins. my husband took the tins out after telling Gift not to toucht he pram and that he would take the formulas out. Gift even had the audacity to pick up a packet of babywipes bought from CLICKS and clearly stated on the wipes. and ask my husband "and these" with an attitude, like we "stole" them. he then took my husband with the tins and slip away... leaving ME, TWO TROLLIES AND TWO CHILDREN behind. no one came to me to expalin that they had actually taken my husband into custody for theift even though the store manager Christo was standing by the door fully aware of what was happening. And Christo... WOW what an arrogant piece of Sh/t how can you even have someone with little to no customer care working in your store!

After about 15 mins of waiting, STILL not knowing what the hell is happening Christo brings my husbands car keys to me... STILL not comminicating with me with the where abouts of my husband.

the door security suggested to me to call my husband. so i did, and my husband tells me he is being investigated for *****t..... you can imagine the shock i felt hearing that. especially after using the store so often.

now, im not a stupid woman, nor do i not undertsand that there are procedures to follow.

But please, we had just spend a large amount of money, the tins were not... WERE NOT concealed. we had said WE WOULD pay for the tins of formula. trust me, "IF" i didnt have enough money for formula, i would never buy myself food and not my baby. We would NEVER resort to *****ing.

I then went to the car to unpack two trollies, two children and pram into our car. NO ONE helped me from pick and pay - one of your customers helped me and another lady from another retail store. NICE GOING!

i stood outside, distraught, calling your "customer care" line where NO ONE could help me because the regional mangers were not available. so i had attitude from your store manager and then customer care telling me they couldnt help me - who the hell from pick and pay was going to help one of their customers?????? ABSOLTUELY F@CKING NO ONE!!!!!!!

i went in to find out what is happening to my husband. Christo was walking towards me so i stopped him. he got in my face! i asked him what happened and what is happening, he told me he couldnt do anything it was with security. so i told him i wanted the security, they came and told me they were watching the footage. i proceeded to tell them what happened. it fell on deaf ears (they had already made up their minds), and i was told they are watching the footage. Now i know that your security may not be so kind... but Christo was rude from the beginning! and if looks could ****... yep a few of us would be dead.

during the time that my husband was being held - for 3 hours in total! your charming (not) security said to my husband that he watched him unpack the nappies and not take out the formula... and allowed him to walk without paying, AND allowed him to walk out the store - ENTRAPMENT!!!! So instead of saying, "sir, have you maybe forgotten to put those through?" which our reply would have been "yes oh my word, sorry" and they would have been paid for them. and gone home and enjoyed our sunday. But he didn't. He waited... he waited to for my husband to step outside. NASTY!!!!! just nasty!

Never mind Pick and pay security thought it necessary to have SIX of their guys around my husband - intimadation? yes i think so.

Plus another one - i think Rudi, say to him" ag if you were going to get arrested you would have been in cuffs already" .... my husband was arrested and it has been said to us by Rudi's authority!!!

I am appauled by the way this whole situation has been handled.

My husband now faces a ******** record!!!!!!! our lives may change because of an honest mistake - and yes ive heard it already. "how do we know if it was honest or not" oh my word you can so tell!!!! and by the sounds of it, this has happened before. i even had some of your staff tell me it was wrong and they could see my husband was a good honest person.

I am not dismissing that there are people out there that *****. but look at our slip - you will see the amount of money we spent... and then to "*****" two tins of formula. NEVER!!!!! we use your store often... and especially for our BIG shops

To give you an idea of the honesty we have... i opened a chip packet for my son to eat, and us. I PUT THAT CHIP PACKET THROUGH TO PAY!!!!!!!

at around 6:30 or so a sector vehicle was brought to pick up my husband a charge was laid against him for shop lifting - my husband is a hard working man. he is a sales rep... if he has a ******** record how is he going to work in SALES!

We got bail for my husband as he has NO PREVIOUS OR PENDING OFFENSES AGAINST HIS NAME!

and had to be in court, paid for a lawyer and will still need to be back in court to face what his, and our future as family may be. We pray it will get dismissed and the judge will see our TRUTH!

i returned the groceries by the way, the next day. and will no longer EVER use Pick and Pay for anything... not even a cool drink.

My parents went back with me for support, and once again your wonderful manager showed his true colours to them as well with the most disgusting attitude - oh and Gift too!!!! Chrito was so rude to my dad as well, again customer service and just well manners missed him!

I can not express enough what this has done to us. we know we are truthful people, and so do so many people who are close to us.

they are shocked and disgusted... not only have you lost our support but a lot more!!!!

So... all this for two tins of formula Pick and Pay.

your management is ****! you have no customer support or care....

the above is the most detailed i can give at this moment.

But please, i am STILL waiting for someone to contact me from you head office... as per a facebook comment. then we could discuss in more detail.

Thank you to your tellers and other staff members that actually treated us like humans and not animals.

Good day Jacqui,

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

We understand that any incident in which a customer is approached by a member of our security team is likely to be stressful.

We strive only to do so where there is a genuine reason. In this instance we have examined the details and have handed the information over to the SAPS.

We cannot comment further at this stage.

Kind Regards

Anwar Mooideen
