Too much to ask?
As concerned citizen who are worried about the safety of our farmers, we approached Pick n Pay to help convince their shoppers that farmers should be loved. We did not ask for money or recognition, simply that PnP design their own posters with messages educating shoppers about the importance of farmers, something like a poster of a tractor with a simple message: PnP says Love the Farmer, he feeds you. We are aware that Pick n Pay supports farmers on a corporate level, but we wanted them to take it a bit further by also asking THEIR SHOPPERS to love farmers, as opposed to telling shoppers PnP buys from farmers, which they do do.
Unfortunately this seems a bridge too far, and director David North refuses. Since we are not asking for recognition or money , but merely requesting a very fair assistance from PnP to help improve the image of our farmers, and in the long term hopefully make people realise that farmers are in need of protection, we cannot understand why PnP would not want to tell shoppers to love farmers. It is shocking, and frankly in my view immoral not to do that in a country where farmers are ******ed at a rate 4x the national average.
