Too early for cash withdrawal of R250

I am highly disappointed by the service I received at Pick n Pay in Wynberg this morning. I was one of the first few customers to enter the store at 08:00 when security opened the doors. I needed to withdraw R250 cash and when I asked if they had cash at the money market, the lady who worked there advised me that she has no cash and that it was too early so she sent me to go to one of the tills inside. I went to each of the 4 tills which were open and the First Lady told me she has no cash. I proceeded to the next 3 cashiers who advised they are only dealing with SASSA. I then went back to the first cashier who had a name badge with the name Molutsoane and asked why they don’t have cash. She answered that “we operate with customers who pay so now it’s too early so they don’t have cash”. I then asked her so is there no one here who can help me? She proceeded by ignoring me as I stood there infront of her. I’m sure there is clear cctv footage in store that can confirm the actions I mention.

I decided to go to the customer care desk to seek further assistance as I was not prepared to walk in the rain to go find a Capitec ATM given my heavy situation. At the customer care desk, no one could assist me so I called pick n pay customer care from phone while I stood around and paced in the store. The lady I spoke to also could not understand what was happening and tried calling the store manager to no avail, I even asked if there was a store manager in store and the ladies at the customer care desk advised that the store manager was busy at the back. Just the one lady offered to assist me and I told her I needed to withdraw cash and told her the amount. I explained that I’ve been to all the tills and what they told me. The customer care agent on the phone asked me to pass my phone to someone in store which I gave to the lady who offered to assist me. After they spoke, she then spoke to one of the cashiers and called me to go do my withdrawal. After I waited 20minutes. I could still hear the cashier complaining to her as if she didn’t want to assist me which is very unprofessional to behave that way in-front of customers.

I would like to know regarding to your(Pick n Pay) policies when it comes to customers withdrawing cash especially the first few customers once the store opens. Do you have the right to dismiss customers due to the fact that it’s too early and also if the cashier has no change? Can you dismiss customers with that reason and that makes it the customer’s problem and if so, should there not be a sign in store which advises it so that customers are aware and well informed? Do you allow your customers to be treated like this with no remorse whatsoever? Not one of the staff in store told me they don’t have cash in a polite manner, they just brushed me off to go to the next till. Why send me to the next till if you all follow the same policy of it being too early to have cash and why offer that service if it cannot be delivered? Do they not have a cash float to start with in the mornings?

I am shocked at the service from everyone in store as they all didn’t look bothered, maybe it was because I was calm and didn’t cause a scene in store, but given my condition I cannot afford to stress, it’s just disappointing to be treated like this.

Reviewer Update
Two days later, I received a response from customer care advising that my complaint was handed over to the store manager who later called me to apologise and offered her personal number and confirmed that kind of service will not happen again.
