Still as useless as always... a technological dinosaur

In this day and age, when all information is available at the tip of one's fingers, I am truly amazed that Pick n Pay are unable to look up an invoice made in their Musgrave Centre store unless one has a Pick 'n Pay Smart Shopper Card. I used to have one but it got lost a few years ago and I didn't bother replacing it as I had stopped shopping at Pick 'n Pay as their fresh produce was not very good. Out of convenience, I began shopping there again towards the end of 2021.

On 29 September 2021, I purchased a Hoover vacuum cleaner from the store, thinking it was a reliable brand. On 31 December 2021, I took the vacuum cleaner back to the store as it was overheating and emitting an awful smell. Even though I searched through every slip I could find, I was unable to find my receipt; however, I did find the payment on my bank statement and could tell them exactly which till I used since I use a wheelchair which limits my options in that regard. They insisted that they are unable to look the purchase up on their system as I do not have a Smart Shopper Card. Having spoken to Glynis and Dulcie at the front desk, I requested to speak to the manager, Mario.

After waiting for another twenty minutes, I was told that he was not going to come to see me and that I should take the vacuum cleaner home and would have to bring the vacuum cleaner back in the New Year; however, I would be responsible for the cost of the repair.

While the onus is on me to keep my slip, I can honestly not believe that a shop like Pick 'n Pay does not have the capability of looking up a proof of payment when provided with the date, amount, and till.

Based on this experience, I will definitely not be getting a smart shopper card, and disappointingly, it seems that giving Pick 'n Pay a second chance was a mistake. Lesson learned.
