Staff policy

Good day

Trust you are well. I would like to enquire on something. Do Pick n Pay staff members get special preferences on items being sold or does the customer get first preference?

The reason for this question is.... Today I went to a Pick n Pay liquor store in Carlertonville, I was looking for the J.C. Le Roux sparkling wine cans. I walked into the shop, looked around and couldn't find it.

I saw the cashier (Khethiwe B. Ncaneni) nearby as she was walking towards her till. I greeted her, she greeted back, in a nice way. I then asked her if they had J.C. Le Roux sparkling wine cans. Her response was "if you don't see them in this fridge then we don't have them" (she pointed to the fridge, which is near the counter). She was at that moment busy with a client. I walked up to the fridge and started looking for the sparkling wine cans. They were no where to be found. I was a bit disappointed, I turned my head around to ask her if they don't stock the BNG sparkling wines. When I turned my head, under the counter of the till, there were two J.C. Le Roux La Fleurette Light Sparkling Wine 250ml and one J.C. Le Roux Apple Blossom & Zesty Citrus Sparkling Wine 250ml can.

When I saw them, I thought of asking her if I could not buy from the cans on her counter, yet the manner which she looked at me when I tried to get her attention, made me realize that she had seen that I saw the cans. I decided to rather not say anything and buy 2 bottles of some gin amd tonic alcohol which was a total waste of my money. I regret going to your liquor store, I felt uncomfortable with confronting her to avoid drama and a scene, however I am not a happy customer at the moment. I would like to find out if staff members actually have first preference on the stock on sale or do customers? Because I find that it happens a lot in the Pick n Pay Supermarket in Carlertonville too.

If this is not your company policy, please educate your clients as they will get frustrated by clients who might actually decide to ask why the cans hidden there and end up causing a scene. Pick n Pay liquor store in Carlertonville has definitely lost a client in me.
