Smart Shopper Points Gone!!

My stomach turned this morning when I received my Smart Shopper Statement. At the end of Dec I had R4484, today it is only R265!!!! I have been saving points for YEARS, only to be slapped in the face with this?!

It was only after online investigation that I see now that points are expiring. Nice of Pick n Pay to inform people upfront! Why were customers not told? If all points were going to expire, there should have been a MAJOR campaign letting customers know. Pick n Pay has our e-mail addresses, cell numbers etc - a message dedicated to said should have been sent out. Posters should have been put up at all stores. But nooooo - sneakily edit terms & conditions on the website? This is absolute nonsense!

I also am not sure why points are expiring as of beginning Jan 2018 when the terms & conditions changed in March 2017? Surely then all our points should be valid till March this year then?? How do you calculate 12 months from March to Dec??? I would also love to know how this gels with the Consumer Protection Act...

Smart Shopper points is a brilliant idea to keep customers loyal. Not sure how those customers are expected to stay loyal after this?

As per the MULTITUDE of other people complaining here on Hello Peter about Smart Shopper Points being taken away, I am wondering how Pick n Pay is going to handle this? I suggest Pick n Pay re-instates the points and allows their customers to spend them by a given date, otherwise they will lose ALL those customers.

Hi Melanie,

Thank you for taking the time to address your concerns with us.

Kindly accept our apologies for any inconveniences caused to you.

Smart Shopper points are valid for 12 months from the time they’re earned. Only points older than 12 months will expire and not all of your points, and points older than 12 months will continue to expire on a rolling month basis. The best way not to lose your PnP rewards is to make sure you spend them from time to time. We always use your oldest points first so use your points to save even more on every day shopping or treat yourself to something special. You can switch points on the app or via the kiosk.

We are sorry you didn't receive the communication that points are valid for 12 months from earning date via our emails or on till slips.

We are busy addressing your complaint with the Smart Shopper Team.

We value you as a Pick n Pay customer and are committed to improve continually on our service levels.

Kind Regards,
Vanitha Venketas

Best regards,
