Smart shopper card number can not be punched in

Yesterday 30th of august I went do my grocery shopping at pick 'n pay in beacon bay retail park, when I got to the till I realized that I did not have my smart shopper card with but I happen to have the pick 'n pay on my phone which had the smart shopper card number, so I asked the cashier to please punch in the card number because I did not want to miss out on my points, the cashier told me that the number can not be punched in and that they would need an authorization that they do not have, I insisted then he called the supervisor(I think her name was Marlie) who told me that they were told not to punch in the numbers. I'm don't understand why they could not just punch in the card numbers as the pick N pay in Vincent pack had done this for me before.
