Smart Shopper brand match a waste of time

I keep getting these smart shopper brand match discount vouchers which expire. What's the point of getting the discounts AFTER your purchase then you have to remember to take the voucher every time to redeem it. Why can't you receive the savings direct to your smart shopper card so you can use it when ever you want? Best to shop where the prices are lower so you can get the savings immediately.
