Shocking disrespect towards uniformed customer at Kiosk ,cashier Phelo- pnp N1 City Mall
I need to report a humiliating experience at Pick n Pay N1 City Mall on 2 May 2026 around 12pm that left me feeling like a second-class customer.
I queued patiently in my mall work uniform during my lunch break. When I reached the kiosk, cashier Phelo instructed me to unpack my items because she needed the basket. I comp**** immediately.
What followed was appalling: She chose to help another customer with a refund first. When I asked about it, she justified it with “he was before me anyway” — referring to the refund customer. Immediately after, she called the gentleman behind me in the queue to pay, while my groceries remained on her counter, unpacked at HER request.
I was standing right there the entire time. Her explanation? That I was “on my phone”. At no point did she inform me she was finished with the refund or ready to serve me.
The most degrading part was the attitude. There’s an unspoken rule at this kiosk: if you’re in mall uniform, you get treated like your time and money don’t matter. When I pointed this out to her, she simply smirked and said “oh really”. No apology. No basic decency.
To summarize: I was told to unpack, then ignored while two other people were served. My items were left exposed on the counter. My lunch break and uniform were used as reasons to disrespect me. And when confronted, I was mocked.
I shop at Pick n Pay weekly. I don’t expect VIP treatment — I expect the same basic respect given to every other paying customer. Being in uniform should not mean being invisible.
I would appreciate feedback on how Pick n Pay intends to address this. I trust this will be taken seriously and that staff will be reminded that all customers, including mall employees, deserve dignity.
