Senior Citizen exploitation

My father, who is a senior citizen, purchased a pc from Pick n Pay Hyper in Steeldale on 16 December 2014. The pc s****ed giving him problems and he took it in on 15 April 2016.

He was then informed that he had to pay an amount of R228.60 just for them to open up the pc to have a look at what the problem is which he paid.

He was then informed that the problem is the motherboard which has to be replaced and that would cost him over R4000. This is almost double what he paid for a brand new pc.

The booklet that comes with the pc states that there is a warranty of 24 months so how does this not apply to an obvious hardware fault.

How can anybody in their right mind as a Senior Citizen receiving a government pension to pay such a ridiculous amount of money.

This is complete and utter exploitation and taking advantage of senior citizens in our country.

Could somebody please explain this process to me and I am absolutely dumbstruck as to how this is possible.
