Rotten meat packaged and advertised
My husband and I bought packaged meat on the 15/01/2026 at Protea Glen Mall Pick n Pay. The meat looked fresh as always and very pleasing to the eye, little did we know that it is rotten. On the 16th I then took out the first tray of meat which was chicken breasts to cook, the meat had a foul smell and was unbearable. I gave it benefit of the doubt and put spices on the meat just to see if the smell will not change and it did not, it was horrible with no trace of blood whatsoever(rotten and purple like looking). I then threw it away thinking it was only one tray. On the 18th I then took out another tray of Chicken drumsticks to cook, but it was also rotten. Today on the 20th I took out a tray of mincemeat to cook, it was smelling foul. Even after I tried adding garlic and some spices the meat was not fresh at all. That is when I decided to go back to the store as the matter was getting out of hand. My husband and I asked for the manager and explained the issue we had at hand. Unfortunately, we received no help as we were told that " the matter is regarded as temperature abuse to the meat" and we were supposed to report the issue at hand, but how were we supposed to know that R500 worth of meat is not fresh. What is painful is that this is our go to store for our monthly groceries and everyday needs. What are we supposed to do with the rest of the meat that we have left? and what about the one we had already thrown away?Is it our fault that the meat put out on the fridge is not fresh? Are we now told to change stores?
