RIDICULOUS PRICES ON STAPLE FOODS

Last week I went to Pick & Pay to buy some potatoes. I was shocked to see the price of it. It was R18.95 per Kg which calculates to R189.50 per pocket of 10 Kg. This price is ludicrous to say the least. It is a staple food and to pay this amount is absolute madness. When I approached the manager on numerous occasions, his reply was that prices are fixed at Head Office and there is nothing he can do about it. Pick & Pay claims and advertise on TV to be cheaper than the other major chain stores on more than 2000 items, but somehow it appears that potatoes are not one of them. The same applies to their own brand milk in sachets where it is charged at close to R10 whilst the farmers only get +/- R1.20 per litre. It seems to me that they are not interested in serving the community but rather to fill their own pockets from the poor. This is indeed a shame on them.
